Read Luke 18
It seems that we usually refer to the story of the rich young ruler when we are discussing Christianity and money. But though there are applications there, I think the emphasis is on salvation. What does it mean to be saved. Or even, what does it take to be saved?
We know the end of the story, he walks away from Jesus sad. I believe the implication is that he went away unsaved. So this means that whatever he did, it did not lead to salvation.
We see that he was religious. He said himself that he kept the commandments from his youth up. I would think also that he would be very moral as well. So just being a good person or even a religious good person is not enough.
He came to the right person--Jesus. A lot of people are exposed to Jesus. They may watch religious programs on TV or listen and enjoy Christian music. They may even attend church. But just coming to Jesus is not enough.
He asked the right question--what does it take to gain eternal life. He was a genuine seeker. But it takes more than asking questions and seeking.
The answer is that we must become a Jesus follower. If He says "Sell" we must sell. If He says "Serve" we must serve. If He says "Love" we must love. Salvation is making Jesus Lord. Not just saying He is Lord. We must step across the line.
Good words, Monty. Keep it up!
